What is Floatation Therapy?
Floatation Therapy was developed by neurophysiologist Dr John C Lilly in the 1950s while he was working at the United States National Institute of Mental Health. The first float is an experience, cumulative floats bring you on your own personal journey. The purpose of this journey is to let go and connect with your true self. This is a unique wellness experience that will make you feel more alive; benefiting your mind and body. It has been called a few different things since then; floating, sensory deprivation, isolation tank therapy, float tank and REST – Restricted (or Reduced) Environmental Stimulation Therapy.
Today’s life is full of chaos and stress. Floating allows you to disconnect, the mind lets go of distractions and the body unwinds, allowing you to embrace peaceful serenity. This deep meditative state stimulates theta waves in the brain which creates a therapeutic dream-like state. It allows you to connect to your deep intuition.
The Float Tank contains ~400kg of food grade Epsom salt which creates buoyancy allowing you to lay effortlessly on the water. It is heated to body temperature ~34.5 degrees Celsius to allow your bodily senses to dissolve.
The ideal Float environment is insulated from external sound and light. This gives your brain the chance to completely disconnect from the outside world and turn inwards. The Epsom salt is Magnesium. Magnesium is one of the most vital minerals in your body. It is responsible for over 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body such as muscle and nerve functions, blood glucose control and blood pressure regulation, it is also required for cellular energy production and in conjunction with calcium contributes to the structural development of healthy bones. Magnesium is also a muscle relaxant that will leave you feeling deeply relaxed and vibrant as the tension in your body melts away and your body releases amazing energy. There is simply no other technology or environment that can simulate these evolutionary effects.

FAQ's
Float therapy is great for meditation and mindfulness, as well as easing stress, easing pain, reducing overstimulation and recovering from a lack of sleep. One hour of float therapy is the equivalent to 4-8 hours of sleep. Sensory deprivation in floatation tanks is the epitome of relaxation and provides other health benefits than those listed above. The Epsom Salts are rich in magnesium, acting as a natural muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory, which further reduces stress for an even more encompassing relaxation experience.

Because floating is a completely natural process, you can float as much as you like, but it really depends on your lifestyle. Some people with chronic injuries will float every 3 days, and some who come in once a month to help with stress. It’s completely based on your needs and the results you are after. Much like the gym, going once won’t have the same impact as going consistently.
We always recommend women check with their doctors, especially if they’re in their first or third trimester, before having a float therapy session. However, floating is popular with many pregnant women and is safe to enjoy with your doctor’s approval (up to 36 weeks). Being relieved of the weight of your bundle of joy provides much-needed relief to a lot of mothers-to-be.
Unfortunately not due to hygiene reasons. We recommend waiting until you’re in an alternate phase of your cycle before coming in to experience float therapy.
Although you may only be floating for 60 minutes, we allow 120 minutes for each session to give us the chance to clean and re-dress the rooms between appointments, as well as filter the pools. Each pool also has 400Kg (approx) of salt in them, so no bacteria is able to cultivate in this environment. Again, we require everyone to shower before and after their session to aid in hygiene.
We certainly do! You can park in our private yard.
No, even if you do fall asleep, you will be kept afloat thanks to the density of the water. You might get some water in your eyes, but that’s it.
You don’t want to be overly hungry, or too full, when you have your session, as your stomach’s noises will distract from the experience. A light meal two or so hours before your session is fine, just be sure not to drink anything but water – no energy drinks, alcohol or caffeine.
No, and you will find that your skin feels smoother after your session – you don’t experience pruning like you would if you laid in a regular bath for the same period of time. Absorbing a large amount of magnesium thanks to the Epsom salts in the water is fantastic for your body, so you have nothing to worry about.
